What the Pyramids Are Made Of
Ancient Concrete
Modern concrete has a higher, denser hydrous content than ordinary concrete. While in ancient times, the adobe mixture used to make their buildings was water-soaked sand and straw, modern cement is made from Portland cement and limestone.
How much is more concrete needed today to build a pyramid?
- Unconventional concrete is stronger than the conventional Portland cement mixture used for most modern buildings.
However, according to the structural engineer Harvey Kent, a man who has built more than 800 structures using Concrete Mixing Techniques (worked on the west stand of Wembley Stadium for Tottenham Hotspur F.C.), the real strength of concrete used in modern construction is only about 20%.
