The Discovery

On December 1, 1948, a body was found on Somerton Beach near Adelaide, Australia. The man was discovered lying in a relaxed position, his body undisturbed.

The case quickly gained notoriety due to the lack of identification and the mysterious circumstances surrounding his death. The man, later known as the “Somerton Man,” has remained unidentified despite extensive investigations and international attention.

The Clues

Several puzzling elements were found at the scene:

• No Identification: The man had no identification on him. Additionally, all labels from his clothing had been meticulously removed, making it nearly impossible to trace his identity or his origins.

• The “Tamam Shud” Slip: A small piece of paper with the Persian phrase “Tamam Shud,” meaning “ended” or “finished,” was found tucked in a hidden pocket of the man’s pants. This phrase suggested a conclusion or a finality, prompting investigators to delve deeper into its significance.

• The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam: The phrase led to the discovery of a copy of the “Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam,” a renowned collection of Persian poetry. Inside this book, a cryptic…
