I have a lot of experience with lawyers. I am constantly contending with these strong personalities in my profession, alongside most legal cronies in close relation to legal professionals. In my experience, people are often being charged more than necessary under contract or contingency pressure. You think your lawyer knows what they are doing. You might be wrong.

The Legal Profession is an Industry

The reason why is because lawyers don’t work for you they work for their firms. Their job is to make money. Far too many lawyers are out to take your money and only know the bare minimum to pass the bar. They don’t remember all the laws. There are too many laws to retain in combination with different interpretations. The law in Canada and North America, in general, is very flexible. The essence is to manipulate the rules in such a way that it benefits the firm's profits. If settling your matter gets them paid, you might be getting the wrong information. Not to say that all lawyers are good or bad, I think you would be surprised to know that they have teams of people working on a singular case like paralegals that are not always detail orientated.
