Please Don't Take Our Guns!
A Future Scenario of America in 2023
Don't Take Our Guns
Over the past few days, America has been witnessing an intense amount of debate on the issue of gun control. Several state legislatures across the country are forging new laws to restrict their citizens from owning certain firearms.
Amidst this growing debate, one underlying theme has stood above all others. Every proposal before us is entirely predicated on stripping American citizens of their constitutional rights.
Before we continue, it's imperative that we first address the difference between a right and a privilege. The right must be earned; it cannot simply be taken away from you without due process or compensation. For example, if you were born with blue eyes and blonde hair, you have a natural right to keep them as your own for as long as possible.
On the other hand, a privilege can be taken away at any time — and the sooner you recognize it, the better off you'll be. Let's say someone was to discover that they had blue eyes and blonde hair. Immediately afterwards, they would lose that privilege, and now it wouldn't matter if they ever found out again because their right to possess those characteristics has been revoked.
