Hiding Depression In Strange Places

It’s odd to think that some of the more joyful people you will ever meet could hold a deep dark secret lurking in the pit of their souls. We all do. We have this emptiness when we are born that gets filled up over time. Think of this emptiness as a reservoir. It fills up with our experiences. Both good or bad. Each experience carries a weight. If we are filled up with love and care, our emptiness craves more positive growth.

When we experience negative things, darkness fills up. Typically leads to self-medication; some people feel the desire to fill their vacancy with drugs, alcohol, or other substances.

When you fill that void with things that make you happy, your mind and body digest the experiences and alleviate the reservoir’s weight-reduction—decreasing underlying mental health issues.

When you keep piling the negatives into the empty bottomless pit, it is precisely that, an endless pit. One day some little thing will happen, like a single droplet of water, and the reservoir will overflow. A person will become unstable.

Because this bottomless pit does fill up with all the crap we haven’t dealt with throughout our lives. It may be abysmal…
