The Importance of Frogs

This may come as a brutal blow for all these frog lovers. If you once dreamed of kissing a frog in hopes of finding your prince, get married and make babies, this following info may disappoint you.

In the summer of 2020 in Central Alberta, the frog population began to decrease. In the summer of 2021, they are no more.

A rapid decline in the population of frogs is an environmental indicator. As a big-time frog fan, I have been frog fetching my whole life. I am lucky to reside in a grassland region where the frogs flourished by the hundreds of thousands not so long ago.

Frogs deliberately decrease populations for survival. The number one reason for a population decrease is environmental changes such as the toxicity of water sources.

Changes in the environment can be anything from a decline in food, or arid conditions, that leave many frogs homeless in search of water. If that primary water replenishing process relies on rain, one is left to wonder what toxicity the frogs detected.
